Donate to support SoCO online flag day

Society for Community Organization (SoCO) is a local charitable organization with the mission to serve the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the SoCO public flag-selling fundraising campaign originally scheduled in October 2020, has to be cancelled.

The annual Flag Day is one of the main fund-raising activities of SoCO and the cancellation will seriously affect the funding for SoCO’s many advocacy and non-funded projects this year. We earnestly appeal for your support to sustain our work under such difficult circumstances.

Behind the façade of prosperity, there is a significant number of deprived groups whose existence are largely ignored or even forgotten.  Our work started from assisting the boat people in 1970s to the present, we are supporting tenants of sub-divided units and the homeless people living in squalid conditions., SoCO provides needy assistance and advocates for the disadvantaged community to safeguard their rights and dignity.   We believe that all members of our society have the right to enjoy a life of decent standard and dignity. We are committed to organize and empower the disadvantaged to take responsibility and participate in collective actions to improve their own lives, including changing inadequate social policies.  We know that we are not alone and we earnestly look to your support to continue this mission.  Please be assured that funds raised will be used solely for serving the disadvantaged children and families and promoting civil rights education in Hong Kong.

The number of homeless people increased sharply in recent years and more people became homeless due to unemployment under the COVID-19 pandemic.  Apart from sleeping on streets, some homeless people  sleep in 24-hour fast food shops and become the so-called “McRefugee”.  SoCO has been assisting the homeless people over the years by delivering timely assistance and advocating for comprehensive services and policies for the homeless.  To arouse public awareness on the plight of the homeless people, SoCO assisted in the production of the film on the homeless, “I’m livin’ it.”

We believe that the homeless are not alone in their struggle for a decent living. They need your support and we invite you to the charity screening of the movie, “I’m livin’ it”. To see for yourself the lesser side of the affluence that most people see and show your support to the disadvantaged people living in our society.
