Health Rights Project

The Patients' Right Association was established by SoCO in 1992 and assists patients and their families to file complaints and make civil claims in cases of medical incidents; including malpractice, refusal to acknowledge professional responsibilities, unfair treatment and concealment of medical mistakes. The Association also focuses on monitoring health care policy and services to ensure people can enjoy their right to proper health care.


- Handles about 600 patient enquiries per year;

- Has assisted hundreds of victims to file complaints and claims, and helped recover compensation amounting to $26 million in total;

- Assisted more than 100 families of SARS victims, patients in recovery and infected medical staff to claim for losses, and fight for improvement in financial assistance and medical treatment for the victims of SARS;

- Encourage the public to participate in medical reform and reflect their opinion to the government.
