Tribute to SoCO Board former Chairman, Professor Fung Ho Lup

We are sad to inform you that our respected former chairman of the board of directors, Professor Fung Ho Lup passed away this morning (10/4/2021).

He has made significant contributions to the development of SoCO as well as civil society in Hong Kong. Professor Fung’s passing away is a great loss to SoCO and Hong Kong society.

Professor Fung joined SoCO as a director in 1978 to serve the poor. He resi gned in 1988 and was invited to join the board of directors, where he served as chairman for many years.

Over the past 43 years, he has led SoCO and advocated fair and just social policies as well as implemented appropriate social services to support the disadvantaged groups so as to establish a social system with justice and benevolence.

He was also very active in helping and participating in civil organizations. He had participated in countless actions/events, such as the boat people issue, amendment of the public order ordinance, legislation on the right of access to information, promotion of local direct elections, etc., He was the pioneer of the local social movement and made great contributions to SoCO and Hong Kong society!

We pay utmost respect to him and miss him forever!

悼念本會董事會前主席馮可立教授

本會很遺憾及悲痛通知大家，我們敬愛的本會董事前主席馮可立教授今早(10/4/2021)離世。

馮教授生前對本會工作作出巨大貢獻，他的離世，是本會及香港社會的損失。馮可立教授於1978年受聘為本會主任，加入本會服務貧苦大眾，1988年離職，並受邀加入做董事會，期間擔任主席多年。

過去43年來帶領社協上下仝人倡議合理和公平的社會政策，並策劃適切的社會服務，支援弱勢社群，建立公義、仁愛的社會制度，他亦很活躍於扶助及參與公民組織，曾策劃/參與無數的行動/事件，例如:艇戶事件、爭取修訂公安條例、倡導資料訊息權立法、促進地方直選等等，是本地社會運動的先驅！對本會及香港社會作出很大的貢獻!

我們向馮教授致萬二分敬意及永遠懷念馮教授！
願他在天國安息！
