Sojourning as tempura – Inadequate Housing Photo Exhibition
About exhibition (有關展覽 )
Hong Kong’s wealth has reached an all-time highest in 2011 while now there are around 100,000 people living at inadequate housing such as sub-divided units, rooms, cubicles, bedspaces, cocklofts, roof-top huts in Hong Kong. By using the voice of the photos, the exhibition unveils the dark side of the metropolitan and shows the toughness of the underprivileged in urban slums. According to official statistics, over 320,000 people are on the waiting list of public rental housing and the number is increasing due to the insufficient allocated units every year, decrease of newly built flats every year and increasing number of working poor and needy.
Tens of singles of families are living in such a limited space, we can easily imagine how hard it is, conflicts and distortions and struggle to survive are the common issues among them. Poor is not terrible compared to the loss of dignity. Home is not only a space for sleep. It is a bottle for collecting our emotions and feeling in daily life, it also help ourselves become stronger and to create hope and opportunities. Winter gone and spring comes, years and years… “sojourning as tempura?” Hope that better allocation is not a dream for the poor.
